(I) About SnowTrax Back To Top
1. What makes SnowTrax different from any other ski travel site?
We worked hard to make SnowTrax unlike anything else on the web. Here are some of the features that set us apart:
  • On SnowTrax you can compare multiple mountains in one search. We know that sometimes you want flight and hotel deals to help determine where you ski. By letting you search for vacation packages in 5 destinations, we make a side by side comparison as easy as possible.
  • We help you decide which ski resorts to add to your travel search. We gather valuable information about each ski resort so that you can create a list of resorts that have the qualities that matter to you.
  • We organize your results by proximity to the slopes. We took the time to find the location of every hotel so that we could to guarantee that you know how close your hotel is to the mountain, each individual ski lift, or the nearest shuttle stop.
2. What do you mean you search ski deals across mountains?
While some skiers and snowboarders have a diehard allegiance to one mountain, plenty of us are more flexible. Maybe you need a huge vertical, enough black diamonds to keep your pulse up, deep powder, and a lively village atmosphere. Maybe you just want a high-roller luxury suite somewhere that’s snowy. Whatever. Enter your dates, departure airport, and some personal preferences and SnowTrax can point you towards the ski resorts that best match your needs. Making a smart ski travel purchase is easier than ever on SnowTrax, where you can do all of the travel research that used to take days with one easy click.
(II) About Choosing Mountains Back To Top
3. What if I know exactly what ski resort I want to go to?
SnowTrax has you covered. Simply click "I have a ski resort in mind" and enter your destination, or click "find" to browse SnowTrax’s options.
4. Does your database include all ski resorts in the country?
SnowTrax is constantly growing. Currently, we focus on the continent’s more prominent mountains, with plans to quickly expand to medium-sized mountains as well as international destinations. Please contact us with suggestions!
5. Why can’t I search flights and hotels at more than 5 destinations?
Searching hotels and flights to multiple mountains is an ambitious task for a search engine. In the interest of providing you with speedy results, we limit the multi-mountain search to five.
6. Why is there no place for me to submit my arrival airport?
There are two reasons for this:
  • The first is that we search flight arrivals into more than one airport in most destinations. This saves you the trouble of conducting multiple searches to multiple airports and also allows you to compare prices and airport to hotel transportation times with one search.
  • The second is that SnowTrax wants to inspire you and help choose which ski destinations to search. We think it’s perfectly okay if you don’t know where you want to go yet, let alone which airport you want to fly into.
  • If you have an airport in mind, you can always select it on the filter bar on the left side of your search results.
7. What do you base your suggested ski destination choice on?
Unlike many travel sites, SnowTrax has no behind-the-scenes relationship with any particular ski resort, and therefore, no bias. Our team carefully analyzed the continent’s top mountains to identify alternative destinations our users might enjoy based on their previous selections. More destinations in your search mean more competition, and ultimately, more savings for you.
8. How do you rate different ski resorts in the "browse destinations" section?
SnowTrax has meticulously classified top ski resorts based on quantitative data – such as terrain difficulty, number of lifts, number of runs, and average snowfall. We also use qualitative data based on expert-published "best-of" lists to point you towards mountains highly-regarded for snow-boarding, family vacations, après-ski, and so on.
9. Why don’t I see my favorite ski destination in your list?
It takes us some effort to add a new ski destination. We have to verify the location of every hotel, find the exact location of every mountain, and research what characteristics make the ski resort special. That being said, this is just the beginning of our mission to bring you the best vacation possible. We are in the process of adding more destinations every day. If you think that your favorite ski resort deserves to be moved to the top of the list, you should send us an email at feedback@Snowtrax.com. We would love to have your request and will be happy to look into the process of adding your mountain!
(III) About your search results Back To Top
10. What if I want to minimize my layover?
After you are shown your ski package search results, click "view more flights" on any package details card to filter flights by layover time using the flight filters on the left side of your results.
11. What if I need a direct flight?
After you are shown your ski package search results, click "view more flights" on any package details card to filter flights by number of stops using the flight filters on the left side of your results.
12. What if my search leads to a message reading: "Oops! Looks like you've filtered out all of your package options"?
Depending on how many filters you have applied and how scarce airfare and lodging are at your chosen destination, it is possible no inventory is available. In general, eliminating one or more of your filters will alleviate this problem.
13. What is the table above my ski package options showing me?
This matrix is summarizing your detailed vacation package options, listed below. This gives you a quick view of the cheapest packages at various distances to the slopes and different star-ratings. Click any row, column, or cell to filter your detailed package list.
14. How accurate are SnowTrax’s hotel proximity definitions?
SnowTrax took a different approach than most travel sites: instead of relying on the sometimes skewed description offered by hotels and rental properties, we hunted down the locations of each property for ourselves. We then mapped these against the precise positions of ski lifts and bus stops to ensure that you know the real proximity of each hotel to the slopes, instead of relying on the (sometimes) exaggerated lodging descriptions listed elsewhere.
15. How are ski packages sorted by "best value"?
Our best value sorting logic factors in distance to the resort, star rating, and overall price to find you high quality properties at reasonable prices.
16. Why does SnowTrax show so many options for destination airports?
Most travel sites will direct you to one airport to get to your destination, even though in-the-know travelers often check prices at several airports in the area. Depending on whether you prioritize price or convenience, you may opt to fly in to a large hub several hours away, or choose to upgrade and fly into a regional airport closer to the resort.
17. How can I view more flight options?
SnowTrax displays the cheapest flight option by default, but to view a comprehensive list, simply click "Find More Flights" on any package details card, displayed in red.
18. What does “Vacation Optimizer” mean?
SnowTrax automatically shows you package pricing with the cheapest flight offered; however, some destinations have alternative flights that will actually get you to the mountain with time to ski the day you land! Check the incremental cost to determine whether this extra time on the slopes is worth the upgrade.
19. How do you calculate the time it takes to transport from the airport to the mountain?
We carefully calculated the time it takes to drive from the airport to the mountain (not including traffic or weather delays) using trusted drive-time estimations. Always striving for accuracy, the transit time starts when you land and includes a 30-minute window for collecting your baggage, while the transit time on your return flight includes a 90-minute window, representing an average pre-boarding arrival time.
20. How do you determine which ski resorts fall under which filters?
We have combined some of the most popular and most trusted lists on the internet. We only categorized a ski resort under a filter if we felt that absolutely all of the lists we looked at would validate that choice.
21. What is the “Proximity to Mountain” matrix for?
The numbers on the matrix represent the base (least expensive) price for hotels at various distances form the mountain. We want you to be able to quickly see how much it would cost you to stay at a hotel that is located On the Mountain, Near a Ski Lift, within Walking Distance, Near a Shuttle Stop or within Driving Distance to the mountain. This way, you can quickly spot a good deal, or figure out what type of hotel is in your budget. You can also use the matrix to sort, organize, and filter the trips below it. The goal is that the matrix will save you valuable time and help you find your ideal trip more quickly.
22. How does the "Star Rating Matrix" help me plan my trip?
The numbers on the matrix represent the base (least expensive) price for hotels of each star rating at each destination. We want you to be able to quickly see how much a hotel a various star ratings cost. This way, you can quickly spot a good deal, or figure out what type of hotel is in your budget. You can also use the matrix to sort, organize, and filter the trips below it. The goal is that the matrix will save you valuable time and help you find your ideal trip more quickly.
23. Why are there multiple arrival airports to choose from in some destinations?
Some destinations have multiple airports in the area. We didn’t want you to have to conduct multiple searches to find out which airport is the cheapest to fly into. Also, we know that the transportation times from various airports to your beach may vary. With a live search of flights to each airport in the area, we hoped to give you a side-by-side comparison that includes price and transportation times of various flights.
24. What do the prices listed below each airport mean?
The prices below each airport give you a dollar range to illustrate price of flights from your departure airport cost over your chosen days. We hope that these prices give you a quick overview so that you can automatically exclude any arrival airports that are unreasonably priced if you choose to.
25. What do the times listed when I scroll over the airport mean?
These are the transportation times to various mountains (not including the time it takes to leave the airport). This should allow you to decide if you want to filter out any mountains or airports based on the length of time that you are willing to spend getting to your hotel.
26. What does it mean to “Filter by Preferred Ski Resort”?
If you hit the "only" button next to the name of a preferred ski resort, then it means that you are only seeing hotels that are driving distance, near a shuttle stop, near a ski lift, within walking distance, or directly on that mountain. Likewise, if you remove any of the preferred ski resorts then you are not seeing hotels in relation to where they are on that mountain.
27. What do the total prices on each Trip Card include?
The price on the trip card includes the cost of your round trip flight and the cost of your entire hotel stay. Almost all of the prices include tax and, if they don’t, there will be a * next to the price.
